Dual Wielding


Dual wielding was implemented this week, a feature that was highly requested by you guys! Dual wielding will allow you to equip and use any two one-handed weapons.



Dual wield attack sequence, weapon charging, and blocking.



I still need to decide what type of a gameplay difference dual wielding will provide (higher attack rate maybe?). Let me know what you guys think!



Blocking


Blocking was another feature that was implemented this week. One-handed, two-handed, and dual wielding weapons are capable of blocking.

When blocking, a large portion of incoming damage is mitigated. A percentage of incoming damage will actually damage the weapon, or shield (which will be implemented later). The damage to the weapon or shield is displayed using a durability system.


Right now there is a simple and arbitrary durability system in place for gear. It'll be important to find and use durable materials to craft your weapons and shields if you intend to block with them extensively!


I believe this system provides another level of challenge and decision making to combat. For example, a player may want to think twice before blocking a very strong attack that could potentially destroy their shield, and instead may want to attempt to dodge out of the way.



Unarmed Combat


Unarmed combat is another feature that was added. It's main purpose right now is providing an option for combat when you have no weapon equipped.



Miscellaneous Improvements


A few other improvements were made this week, mainly in the form of code refactoring to better support the new features being implemented. A few tweaks to some of the animations, primarily the one-handed attack animations, and tweaks to weapon charging and bow drawing.



Next Week Preview


The core of the combat system is nearing completion! Next week I'll be extending the combat system to the mobs so that they can fight back!
