Community Announcements

I first want to give a big thanks to Maor Cohen (Beetle Backer) for supporting development via Patreon. 🧡

I also have a couple of announcements. The first was a 'development pivot' that I announced on Discord, here's that announcement in full:

"For a while now development has been focused on creating all the core features of Fableforge before releasing a test demo. But I want to make a slight pivot from that, and instead focus on releasing a playable test demo as soon as possible.

I want to do this for a few reasons. Having a test demo available early while I work on the game will help build a healthier alpha release, because we'll have a longer timeframe to be able to test the game, and we'll be able to better focus on even the smallest features that would be frequently added.

Secondly, it would incentivize our Patreon supporters. Having access to a test build is a significant benefit of being a Patreon supporter, and I'm hoping the additional support will help us fund important things like hiring a composer, adding audio, and even hiring other developers who can help make Fableforge an even better experience!

And lastly, I believe this will be a great way to have you guys play a much more active role in development. Having a test build available much earlier where you guys can help find bugs and provide feedback on newly added features will help us create a much more enjoyable experience when the alpha releases!

With that said, a few core features that I planned on starting development on this week like spellcrafting and being able to craft your own weapon skills will be delayed so that I can use that time to make sure all the existing features are integrated nicely into the game and work with eachother for the test build.

So expect a test build relatively soon!"

I also plan on creating a revamped roadmap, probably using Trello or something similar, where you guys can see all the things that will be in the game, what's finished, and what needs to be added. I have a roadmap in our Discord server, but I wanted to provide something that goes a little bit more in detail and shows what will be in the demo. I think this will provide more transparency and to give you guys an idea of what to expect with the demo.

Lastly, I'm currently working on getting a Steam page up! It'll be ready very soon and you guys will be able to wishlist the game so that you get a notification when the alpha releases. I will be making an announcement when the Steam page is up.

A crafted top hat, seen from the forging editor.

This week I primarily worked on armorforging. You're able to build armor directly on your character. There are five different armor types: helmet, chestplate, leggings, gloves, and boots.

This system still needs some more work (as well as forging in general), but right now it works well enough. I'll be improving upon these systems probably either right before the demo releases or a little afterwards.

I didn't get as much done as I was hoping to this week, but next week I'll be working on making sure all the existing features are working properly with each other. This is a process that may continue into the week after as well. You can also expect a Steam page this week as well!
